The Design Thinking Process

What is Design Thinking?
Design thinking refers to the cognitive, strategic and practical processes by which design concepts are developed by designers and/or design teams.
Design thinking is also associated with the innovation of products and services within business and social contexts.
Design thinking encourages organizations to focus on the people they’re creating for and leads to human-centered products, services, and internal processes. The core of design thinking is getting actionable and knowing your questions.
It is about simple mindset shifts or ways of asking questions differently—a new way to look at problems.
Why Is Design Thinking Important?
- It reduces the risk associated with launching new ideas.
- It helps organizations learn faster.
- It generates solutions that are innovative, not just incremental.

Design studios conducts design thinking activities.
- State the problem statement. Sketching/Write the problems facing and do they want to solve.
- Listening to people present their sketching.
- Grouping together similar sketching.
- Naming the group category with the participants
- Evaluating the positive and negative aspects of the sketches.
- Voting on the most promising sketches
- Re-sketching new ideas based on lessons learned in the design studio session.
- Mashing up 2 different sketches on a whiteboard.
- Making decisions together to create a common vision.
After the design thinking process, your team will have strong sense of purpose and a common vision. Each member will be able to clearly and enthusiastically communicate that vision to their respective teams and stakeholders. This will result in faster development times, smarter decisions on features, and improve user experiences.
